Dreams

Life is but a dream

Whether we remember them or not we all dream.  Directly after you have woken up you may recall your dream but after 5 minutes half the content has been forgotten and after 10 minutes most, if not all, has been forgotten.  Every so often we will all have that one, vivid dream that we just can't forget and that leaves us baffled the next day.  I have come up with 5 categories of dream:

1. The Completely Random - where someone you haven't seen for years is being chased by a vacuum cleaner or where you fly over your office hand in hand with the next door neighbour's guinea pig.

2.  The Sudden Realisation - you're contently dreaming your way through a normal day, you're in the middle of a routine task, you look down and, "OMG, where have my clothes gone?"

3.  The Recurrer - that dream that you have had so many times that on each recurrence you are completely convinced that, this time, it really is happening.

4. The Nightmare - whether it made sense afterwards or not, we have all woken up terrified from a dream.

5.  The Frustration - you know you must move, if you stay where you are something bad will happen but movement is either completely impossible or you're stuck in slow motion while the rest of the world is running on fast forward.

Fear not; dreams are rarely premonitions so you needn't start worrying that your vacuum cleaner is plotting to suck up next door's favourite pet.  Dreams don't tend to make sense as they are just random jumbles from all the memories we have collected throughout our lives.

Many people believe that dreams do have deeper meanings and many translations techniques are available.  Here is one dream and what it could mean (this was donated by a kind member of our team who wishes to remain anonymous):

"I regularly dream that my teeth are falling out.  They fall into my hands one by one as I push and prod them.  I know that if I didn't touch them they would stay in place but something compels me to do it anyway.  Each time I have this experience, dream-me is convinced that this time it is the real deal and all my other dreams have just been a forewarning of this moment."

The loss of teeth is a common dream theme.  There are various interpretations but the most popular understanding seems to be that the dreamer is suffering from anxiety or low confidence due to the way they believe others perceive them.
